LSA 1-1 Support

Where a child is struggling with their speech and language, 1-1 LSA support will be put in place. The purpose of allocating this support is for the child to focus on their individual learning targets, provided by the NHS Speech and Language Services. Often a child will receive between 3-4 sessions per week, to focus on their development targets. The children will then be assessed by the inclusion team on a termly basis to monitor progress.

Bucket Time

Bucket time is an approach to developing attention approach created by Gina Davies, with the aim of developing children's shared attention skills in a group setting. During bucket time, the children are provided with motivating and visually exciting experiences that encourage them to focus their attention for extended periods of time and to take part in an adult-led group activity.

Although developed specifically with the needs of children on the Autistic spectrum in mind, Bucket Time can be a very useful tool for any children who struggle to engage with adult-led activities and to focus their attention.

Reading Dogs

When available the school has visits from a Pet Therapy Dog, supported by the charity, Burns by your side.  Research suggests that pets can encourage a child's learning needs, especially in reading, communication, observation and speaking. This is a useful tool when teaching all children but can be particularly helpful for those with special educational needs (SEN). These sessions often last 15 minutes and children get the opportunity to stroke, read or talk with the animal. A trained volunteer is always present during the session.
